The two met in South Africa during the Swiss Embassy supported tour of the Geneva Ballet in 2015, and worked together at the High Five project which PHJHB supported, as part of the Geneva Ballet’s engagement with the context.
Tshabalala was PHJHB’s 2017 Studio Artist in residence, and he spent most of November 2017 in Geneva working on the project, whic explors the idea of masculinity in modern society and the impact it has on man.
Vladimir on residency in south Africa to continue work on the piece to ready for presentation, as well as to participate in other national engagements / workshops.
Tshabalala was born in 1987 in Sebokeng, Johannesburg. His career started through involvement with various community groups. He was 2013 recipient of the South African Standard Bank Young Artist Award for dance and he joined the Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative in 2012 and until recently was serving as company Co-Artistic Director.
After graduating from the Vaganova Academy and completing a masterful career as a ballet artist, in 2011 Vladimir, orginally from Russia, felt the call of contemporary dance and became part of the great theater in Geneva.
